krummo
Hey people..First time poster.. I've been trying to research things through the search, but have had limitred success because of the limits of the search engine and the sheer amount of info to wade through. The basic thing I am looking for is if there are any obvious compatability issues with my setup! q6600 OC'd to 3.15 Gigabyte p35-DQ6 4*1gb corsair XM2 CL4 800mhz Gigabyte Nvidia 8800GTS 640mb 500gb seagate SATA HDD 320gb SATA drive (not sure about manufactuer) Writemaster DVD burner (IDE I think) I know the dq6 SHOULD be supported aside from sound issues and that the 8800GTS can be fixed to work. How am I looking overall though? I'm looking to install the 10.4.10 XxX release. Thanks peeps! marliwahoo
Think about the Intel 975bxb2 MB. Get a Pioneer dvd burner - OSX will think it is an oem Apple product and you can use it as such. Synaesthesia
You need to set your computer sata to "achi mode" in BIOS. Check the P35 motherboard threads... For your 8800, look at this thread. Good luck! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65859-compatable-setup/#findComment-466700 Share on other sites
krummo
What does having the pioneer drive change? Does it make the process simpler og more stable? Thanks for the heads up on the SATA bios change. Also, I have a MSI dual net card (bluetooth, wireless). I think I read somewhere that is was compatable but have been unable to verify... krummo
Alright, I've been scanning the boards but there is little to no info on the p35-DQ6! Am i farily safe in my assumption that the DSR3 has basically the same chipset? What's different? Also I've read conflicting posts about the DVD drive situation. Some say that SATA/USB is a must but others have had success with IDE drives....it's a little confusing.. Well an apple "shipped/supported" drive lets you use all the burning features in OSX. Some unsupported burners will need Toast or other software to burn cd's / dvd's.
