laptop display doesn't power off

I have a Dell Latitude D800 laptop (same hardware as an Inspiron 8600) with a Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo.

Everything seems to be working well on this laptop except multi-monitor support (I just want clone mode) and more importantly, the laptop display doesn't power off after the elapsed time specified in the power management settings.

I searched the forums and read through many posts, but I couldn't seem to find anyone else talking about this issue. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it?

I'm having that problem as well on my Inspiron 8600. I copied that ACPI PowerManagement.bundle from this forum into /System/Library/SystemConfiguration and replaced the old version and reset the permissions, but the display doesn't blank after the set time interval. I do see the battery indicator at the top.

Plus the laptop seems to be running the fans all the time, like it's not stepping down the power consumption. I'll keep looking for an answer.
