ATI Mobility X1600 graphic issues in Windows XP (Boot Camp 1.4)

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum.

I'm having an odd graphics issue with Windows XP when I load it up through Boot Camp - I'm noticing some flickering going on (there'll be random green sparkles - on grey backgrounds, some blueish scrolling horizontal lines). I have the latest ATI drivers installed, Boot Camp 1.4 with all the latest Mac updates, I've been routinely downloading all the latest updates from both Windows and Macintosh operating systems (my Mac OS X is current 10.4.10).

Could any of this be caused by that (EFI?) firmware update I did not too long ago through Mac OS X?

When I first got my 17'' MacBook Pro I don't recall having any of these graphical issues with Windows XP, so I think some driver or update along the line that should have been safe may have comprimised the stability of my graphics.

Have any of you folks experienced this, it's a 256mb ATI X1600 Mobility if that helps? Thanks for any insight into this issue :(

It appears that the EFI update did indeed mess up the graphics on these particular Macbook Pros (2.33 C2D, ATI X1600). The issue happens with XP, Vista, Linux, etc.

There is a long dicussion about it on the Apple forums... from what I can tell Apple is so far denying any responsibility for the issue and actually telling people to call Microsoft...
