Hi Guys,

Basicly im kind of a newb and i really want to set up an Osx86 system on my Dell Optiplex 745. i read the wiki and it says...

Dell Optiplex 745

Method: Native install, 10.4.8 JaS reseed DVD, Semthex kernel

Only SATA Drives

SoundMax Audio working with AppleAzalia.kext

Tips:

1.- Burn Jas 10.4.8 with the new ICH7R/ICH8R kexts drivers.

2.- In the BIOS change the SATA config to "Legacy" for correct detection of the SATA HDD.

3.- Boot and install from an external DVD-ROM (USB).

ive mananged to get hold of a 10.4.8 JaS with the semthex kernel and ive burned it onto dvd

wen i booted up i went into bios and changed the sata config to legacy..

save and exit bios

and then... boot from cd

seems to boot up fine and then i get the white screen with the apple logo

and a animated circle spinning like its trying to load something

then.. it freezes.. the animated icon keeps spinning but just above the apple logo there is an icon which is a square white box with a red circle inside and the red circle has a line going through it diagonally.

i dont have the specific specs of my pc with me becuase i am at work and ive only had the machine 3 days so i dont know it off by heart but its a dell optiplex 745 with 2.13 intel dual core and 2gb of ram with a 150gb sata HDD

i am thinkin its something to do with the ICH7R/ICH8R kexts drivers becuase i am not sure if they are already on the dvd or not becuase i just burnd it streight frm the iso i downloaded

i may be rong but thats all i can think off according to the wiki instructions

if it is those drivers.. how do i go about getting them and how do i add them to the iso

i would be so pleased if anyone can help me.

I have an Optiplex 320 and can't install OS X natively. I have to install it via VMWare using the physical disk, then edit the appropriate kext adding my SATA controller IDs (in my case it is a ATI (Ven ID 1002) with a DEV ID of 4380) and then I can boot natively off the HD.

When you boot into windows, you can get the Vendor ID and Device ID from the device manager. Find those out and then someone may be able to help you.

ok I have the same chipset but mine is one number difference. Mine is the northbridge ATI RC410 and Southbridge ATI SB450.

My Serial Controller is an ATI Technoligies 4379 Serial ATA Controller 1002:4379 Rev 80.

Yours is 4380 only 1 number off.

I am installing Uphuck's 10.4.9 v1.3 another way instead of vmware. vmware sound to complicated. I have installed vmware from windows and installed linux before that way and did not like it. TOo slow and tOo long of a tedious process.

Anyhow I got a Serial to IDE converter. I also got a Serial to USB but using the other for now. The drive is now there and I am installing right now. I had to remove the CDROM IDE cable since there is only one IDE on this motherboard so I had to use my external USB drive to install the DVD from there.

Which kext do I need to modify in order to have the onbaord sata see the drives after I am done. I want to remove it from that converter and put it back to the onboard controller but not before I modify the proper kext obvioulsy.

So which kext is it?
