I've got close to getting OsX86 installed on my Asus P5K-E based mobo after many tries, but still no banana.

I'm using Uphuck 10.4.9, v1.3 (tried 1.4i, but could not get it to install)

I have osx86 installed, but it will not boot past 'Still waiting for root device'. Here's what I've done so far:

In order to get the installer to boot, I had to have one DVD drive connected to a SATA port, and one to an IDE. Booted from SATA (if I did this from IDE it said plist not found) and it got to 'Still waiting for root device'. At this point, I took the disk out and put it in the other drive, and it booted the installer.

I'd already partitioned my disk using linux fdisk (MBR, not GPT), and I erased it using the tool with the installer. That went OK, and it installed fine. I have a dedicated HDD for osx, and it's connected to my IDE port. The installer could only see my IDE disk, although I have to SATA disks in there too.

I set up Grub to boot the new installation. It loads, but hangs at 'Still waiting for root device'.

I have tried setting my disk controller to AHCI, IDE, and RAID, all with the same results. I have tried connecting my mac osx disk up to my SATA controller with a converter, instead of IDE. I get the same results... It boots, but only as far as 'Still waiting for root device'.

I guess it needs a driver for my disk controller. I think I can boot into linux and write to the disk, if it's possible to get a driver on there that way? Otherwise I'm out of ideas.

Any advice, please?

Just as a side note, i've heard quite a few people have had problems with that specific DVD. You may want to look into this guide for the P5K-E which uses JaS 10.4.8 [including ppf1 + ppf2 i assume].

Have you tried setting your computer to boot from your IDE HDD, avoiding using Grub?

You won't be able to use linux to write to your disk; as far as i'm aware linux will not allow writing to journaled HFS drives... Also, i don't know how you'd properly sort out permissions, etc... Should need be, try booting with the -s flag to boot into single user mode, which should give access to read/write to your OSX partition, albeit in a non-GUI environment... Furhtermore, what's the output of booting with the -v flag? What are the last main lines of code, before the 'waiting for root device' error?
