locus Posted September 29, 2007 Share Posted September 29, 2007 Hi, I'm somehow unable to mount an external USB drive on my TubGirl 10.4.10 system. The USB drive itself is ok since it works without any problems on my Powerbook. Anyone else experience such problems? Any suggestions? Here's some more details about my system and the error output: OS: TubGirl 10.4.10 System: Darwin ahoi.internal.loc 8.10.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.10.1: Wed May 23 16:33:00 PDT 2007; Sochi2014:FTW_Toh__/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386 # kextstat|grep -i usb [~] 30 9 0x2a04a000 0x34000 0x33000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily (2.7.5) <6 5 4 3> 31 0 0x2a0b7000 0x1a000 0x19000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI (2.7.5) <30 16 5 4 3> 37 0 0x2a5b5000 0x21000 0x20000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI (2.7.5) <30 16 5 4 3> 60 0 0x23e9c000 0x4000 0x3000 com.parallels.kext.ConnectUSB (3.0.0) <30 11 6 5 4 3> 62 0 0x23ea6000 0x3000 0x2000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBUserClient (2.7.6) <30 11> 65 0 0x29f76000 0x12000 0x11000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBHub (2.7.5) <30 11> 77 0 0x2a490000 0x4000 0x3000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBComposite (2.7.5) <30 11> 78 0 0x2add5000 0x7000 0x6000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHIDDriver (2.7.5) <30 20 11> 79 0 0x2ae21000 0xa000 0x9000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass (1.4.9) <38 34 30 11> Error msg in system.log: Sep 29 14:21:54 ahoi kernel[0]: USBF: 643.362 AppleUSBHubPort[0x289b700]::GetDevZeroDescriptorWithRetries - port 2 - GetDeviceZeroDescriptor returned 0xe00002ed Sep 29 14:21:54 ahoi kernel[0]: USBF: 643.394 AppleUSBHubPort[0x289b700]::GetDevZeroDescriptorWithRetries - port 2 - GetDeviceZeroDescriptor returned 0xe00002ed Sep 29 14:21:54 ahoi kernel[0]: USBF: 643.426 AppleUSBHubPort[0x289b700]::GetDevZeroDescriptorWithRetries - port 2 - GetDeviceZeroDescriptor returned 0xe00002ed Sep 29 14:21:54 ahoi kernel[0]: USBF: 643.432 AppleUSBHubPort[0x289b700]::GetDevZeroDescriptorWithRetries - port 2 - GetDeviceZeroDescriptor returned 0xe00002ed Sep 29 14:21:54 ahoi kernel[0]: USBF: 643.465 AppleUSBUHCI[0x22ec000]::MakeDevice error setting address. err=0xe00002ed device=0x2ca5600 - releasing device Sep 29 14:21:56 ahoi kernel[0]: USBF: 645.866 [0x289b700] The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device. BJMoose Posted September 29, 2007 Share Posted September 29, 2007 No guarantees, but did you try more than one USB slot? Sometimes the built-in USBs on the rear of the case are more dependable than those connected to the front of the case via usb cable. locus Posted September 30, 2007 Author Share Posted September 30, 2007 thx for the tip but the USB port isn't the problem. I highly suspect the USB driver isn't working properly. Unfortunately, all the alternative drivers won't work with kernel 8.10.1. ~pcwiz Posted September 30, 2007 Share Posted September 30, 2007 My suggestion: Revert to a 8.9.1 or 8.8.1 kernel (you won't lose any functionality) and install the USB driver.
