Feonix
I've decided to install Uphuck OSx_10.4.9 v1.4a for my AMD PC but I just had a few questions if someone can help me out quickly. I will be using Partition Magic 8 to partition, and, instead of using a bootloader like BootMagic 7, Acronis Disk Director Suite, or GRUB, I've decided to go the Windows XP route and use the good old fashioned BOOT.INI configuration. I think Im pretty sure how this is done, adding "chain0" and all, I just wanted to know, do I set up the BOOT.INI BEFORE or AFTER installing OS X? If I'm correct, you would do it after installing, right? My main conscern is not being able to boot into Windows after the OSX Installation...I would appreciate it so much if someone can help me, thanks a lot. Danyel
Hi Feonix: After installing Mac OS X, you should be able to select Windows partition from the Darwin's Boot Menu. If you prefer to use Windows XP's Boot Menu, you need to do couple steps. 1) Boot from Windows 98 CD-ROM, and then run FDISK to set Windows as Active Partition. 2) After booting into Windows, you'll need to download file called CHAIN0 and save it to your C:\ Drive. Chain0 File 3) After copying the file, modify your BOOT.INI and add line similar to following: C:\CHAIN0=Mac OS X 4) After rebooting, you should be Windows Boot Menu allowing you to choose Windows or Mac OS partitions. If you want to go back to Darwin's Boot Menu: 1) Boot from Windows 98 CD-ROM, then run FDISK. Select the Mac OS X partition as Active Partition. Reboot. --danyel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64740-using-windows-bootini/#findComment-458556 Share on other sites

netko10ti
Is the same procedure if OSX is installed on the slave disk, or you can just modify boot.ini without Chain0?
