Multiple resolutions

I modified my com.apple.boot.plist file to display the correct resolution on my monitor 1280 x 1024.

 

I noticed in the drop down box nest to the clock that is the only one list is the 1280 x 1024.

 

Is there a way to list multiple resolutions in that box, I do not own a real mac, a friend of mine told me that his drop down box has multiple resolutions in it?
