Artmuzz
Hi, I recently got Mac OSX 10.4.10 (OSX86) and I have tried to install on my Pentium 4 PC. The problem I am having is that when the installer tells me to "Select a destination volume to install Mac OSX software" there is no hard drives displayed. On the PDF instructions that came with OSX86, it tells me to go into BIOS and try switching AHCI. I have gone into the BIOS on my computer but I cannot see AHCI. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8STXCFS and the chipset is SiS 645DX Rev 00. Can anyone help? I also have Windows XP currently on my computer and wish to keep it on my drive. Is there anyway I can keep Windows XP on while installing Mac OSX? So I have the choice of WinXP and MAc OSX when booting. Please advise Artmuzz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63769-osx86-question/ Share on other sites

Artmuzz
This is strange...... when the installer asks to select destination of Mac OSX there is no drives displayed yet when I go into disk utility my hard drive shows up. What should I do? Should I format that drive and try again to see if the drive appears so I can install Mac OSX on it. OR Buy a new computer? I seen a Acer Aspire SA90/E4500 desktop on sale for £380. It has Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz 800mhz FBS 2mb cache and SiS Mirage Graphics. BlackCH
Forget about the AHCI thing. You want to read this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;hl=dual+boot http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;hl=dual+boot http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;hl=dual+boot and to do a search to find out about your chipset support. If you're thinking in buying a new computer because OSX, you should look for one with intel chipset (915g, 945g at least) to ensure compatibility. Otherway stay with what you have. If the installer is not showing the drive, but it is showing up in Disk Utility, then that does mean that you need to format the drive. It needs to be "MacOS Extended (Journaled)" for it to show up in the installer. If you still have it formatted for Windows (FAT32 or NTFS) then it won't be seen by the installer. Artmuzz
Thanks guys for the replies:) I followed the instruction in this link http://dilnalomo.googlepages.com/xposx04 I tried to erase the selected hard drive that I partitioned on Acronic Disk Director Suite when using disc utility on Mac OSX installer. I erased it to Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) but still when I go into the "Select Discs to install Mac OSX" window there is still no discs showing. Even though I formated (erased) to Mac OSX Journaled it still tells me the partitioned disc is still Windows (FAT32). This is a headache Any ideas? Artmuzz
Why is it when I try to format (erase) my MS-DOS File System (FAT32) partition to MacOS Extended (Journaled) on Disc Utility it formats my partition to Windows (FAT32)? Windows (FAT32) is no use because I know its the reason the disc isn't showing up on the "Select Disc to install Mac OSX" window. I am about to give up with this and just use my MacBook for OSX instead. It sounded a nice idea using my PC for OSX but I guess it too bad it isn't working out Thanks for the help anyway. LSD_GPx
try this: in windows, with the disk manager, erase the OSX partition; dont give any format. Make shure it appears as unpartitioned/free space. Apply changes, close the app. go to start/run and type command [enter]. Command line window will open. type: Diskpart [enter] List disk [enter] - it lists all disk in your system. select disk N [enter] (N=your HD nr. , 0 (zero) if you have only one HD) list partition [enter] - it shows the partitions on the selected disk. create partition primaty id=af [enter] - it will create a partition out of the unpartitioned space. list partition [enter] - now the new partition should be listed among the others. exit [enter] now you can boot the DVD and try what you tryed before. Erase the partition with diskutility (choose the hfs+ extended file system before). It should work.
