I've got a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite set, and while it works, the support in OSX is poor. The volume up / down and mute button works on the keyboard, the back / forward buttons don't work on the mouse (this is what I'm looking to get going for Safari / Firefox etc). The scroll speed is too slow (the MS drivers had options, one of which was scroll speed, but putting the slider at 'fastest' did nothing anyway).

So I go to MS and download the Mac packages it suggests I do, and it's even crappier. There's nothing about battery levels, or configuring the keys on the mouse etc.

Anyone out there tried something (on a regular Mac), or is this the best Microsoft can do for supporting their hardware on Mac?

Cheers.

Rememeber that PPC drivers doesn't run on OSX86, only Apps.

I also have Wireless Intellimouse, all buttons are detected (through Exposé) but there is no app/driver yet to assign back and forward buttons.

But one thing I discovered is if I plug my mouse with the PS/2 adapter I loose the horizontal scroll, so I connect directly to USB.

Sure, but not only M$, Logitech too, I have the MS Wireless Bluetooth Mouse that I use with my PowerBook, of courese there are no MS Drivers to support BT mice on Mac, neither Logitech, and also my Logitech WebCam, the drivers are bad and no new ones, even the new model of the orbit doesn't have for Mac OS.

:D I also got that wireless keyboard/mouse set, the problem is the keyboard uses PS/2 interface and my 8F1111 just can't recognize it!?

I've checked Microsoft's site which said only the USB interface is supported, but how do I convert a PS/2 to a USB? There's one USB -> PS/2 converter coming with the Elite set, but no PS/2 -> USB...

Any idea? Thanks inadvance.

Hey there ;)

i got the same problem ... i installed the 8F1111 img on my PC and during the install it worked ... but when i wanted to finish the installation (creating new account & ...) it just wouldn't recognize my usb mouse (wireless intellimouse explorer 3.0) ..

And Jyo , there are converters for PS/2 to USB ... i bought one ...

But it's not usefull ... it should work just using the USB for the 2 (keyboard and mouse) ...

Can anyone help ?

greetz

PS: mouse worked with 10.4.1 install (Maklar)

I was under the impression Rosetta is making at least some PPC drivers function on OSx86. But I'm still at the trying to get my mouse working stage myself.

I have a USB mouse that works fine plugged into a Mac Mini, no drivers needed, but plug it into OSx86 and nothing.

I initially used MS mouse and keyboard (both USB) with my Mac Mini and I thought the system was flaky - what was really going on was the peripherals were drawing more current than the USB standard allows on a per-port basis.

So not only is Microsoft power hungry, their peripherals are, too.

I gave in and found a USB Mac keyboard I like and used that on the Mini until I finally got Bluetooth peripherals.

Bluetooth mice are not really good on the Mini, I've found that both I and another Mini owner are having similar problems with the mouse just getting disconnected from the system without warning - they have the Apple wireless mouse; I have a Logitech BT.

BT is by far a superior wireless standard for peripherals imo - what other wireless peripherals require they be "paired" with their intended computer? I think this means nobody can easily commandeer your computer using another Bluetooth peripheral.

People with the same make and model of any other wireless peripherals usually CAN commandeer your computer if they are close enough (e.g., in the next cubicle). I especially dislike the idea of someone wardriving and finding my keyboard signal and recording its keystrokes. I think Bluetooth cannot be eavesdropped so easily.

MS drivers have been basically useless, even on the Mini. There was a Logitech driver for the 5-button optical USB mouse I had and it would let me assign functions to all buttons.
