DRKRONNIN
I'm Looking to build a new osx86 machine and I was interested in building a dual Xeon machine with two quad core processors. I searched the forum and wiki and I haven't come up with anything so I decided to make this thread. I think it would be cool to run OSX86 on a server Mobo I was looking at the ASUS DSBF-D Dual 771 Intel 5000P SSI EEB 3.61 Server Motherboard with two intel E5320 cpu's. Heres my prospective specs. I'm pretty sure that all of the hardware should be supported, I'm just on the fence about the mobo and dual cpu's. Heres my specs: ASUS DSBF-D Dual 771 Intel 5000P SSI EEB 3.61 Server Motherboard - OEM Intel Xeon E5320 Clovertown 1.86GHz Socket 771 2U Passive Processor Model BX80563E5320P Intel Xeon E5320 Clovertown 1.86GHz Socket 771 Active or 1U Processor Model BX80563E5320A BYTECC USB 2.0 + Firewire Combo PCI Card (4+1 USB2.0 & 2+1 Firewire A Ports) Model BT- PCI-U2FW LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner included extra White bezel, with 12X DVD-RAM Write Black IDE Model LH-20A1P-186 Maxtor DiamondMax 21 STM3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110 967561-0403 Black USB + PS/2 RF Wireless Standard Keyboard Mouse Included - Retail Hanns·G JW-199DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail ARK SR-8100BK Black DUAL XEON Ready Server Case - Retail WINTEC 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 FB-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) ECC Fully Buffered Dual Channel Kit Server Memory Model HIS Hightech H260XTQT512DDN-R Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card Thanks in advance for your help!! BJMoose
I'm guessing you're going to be the front person on this topic. Been reading these forums everyday for quite awhile and only recall one person who was talking about this and I doubt if they ever followed through. Let us know how this turns out. DRKRONNIN I would advice the Tyan Tempest i5000XT motherboard. There's no better one to clone a mac computer. I am going to build a similar osx86 machine. I made some research and in one forum I checked they were running (there are images) two processors like the ones you want, but they were reconized as dual cores, although running all cpu cores. But that system was made some time ago, so stick with those cpus, because even if they're not yet fully compatible, they eventually will. . Also, your graphic card is now yet supported (none of all 2xxx series are), I believe. I hope this helps you out. I'm also keeping my search to see if I find anything reported they're properly reconized, so I'll keep in touch. DRKRONNIN
Thanx for the quick reply, I'm definitely going to look into the Tyan Tempest. I was looking for a mobo that could possible OC these cpu's. I figure Ill just go for it and see what happens. You said that graphics card I have listed isn't supported any suggestions on a really strong compatible graphics card?
