USB HD with DV9310ca

Okay so heres the specs:

 

HP DV9310ca Laptop

 

Processor: AMD Turion ™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-50 1.6ghz

Memory: 1024mb

Chipset: nVidia nForce Go 430

Video: nForce Go 6150

 

USB HD: 250 GB USB 2.0

 

 

So anyway, been trying this for weeks now. I've finally gotten Tubgirl's 10.4.10 DVD to install to my USB drive (I'd prefer my internal sata drive but alas, no luck there it just locks up when accessing...) and I'm now faced with an even more frustrating problem. When I finally got the damn thing to boot into OSX it crashes during the post install config. Sometimes I can get to the point where I'm entering my name and such, sometimes it crashes before, but either way the whole system locks up less then a minute after boot. Sound is working but locks up into a stutter. Video appears to be scaled but working. Everything but my keyboard is working (which I know I have to fiddle with some kext files to get going but i can't get that far...). I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about what might be causing the lock up. It installs fine and even boots but then I get the lock up during configuration every time.

 

Any ideas?
