sjoerd
I'm trying to install Mac OSX on my laptop with the following specs: pentium m780 (2.26ghz) supporting SSE2/ SSE 2gb ram ddr 667 7900gtx 120gb sata 5400 rpm I dont know exactly what version it is of mac osx but its brought by "vertigo" "How to Dual-Boot Windows XP & Mac OSX" is the title of the package. (i got it from a friend) When i boot the dvd (burned with Nero) i press enter and i see the gray loading screen, after a minute or 2 my harddisk activity stops and the spinning wheel of dead keeps spinning, also a gray square appears with a dark gray stop sign in it... Then, nothing happens... What am I doing wrong? If you guys need more information about something i will post it immediatly thanks for the help already! skyhighmac
So your friend gave you the digital mds and you burned it with nero? Just want to make sure we are on the same page. sjoerd
Yup correctly, i first mounted it with deamon tools because nero couldnt read the mds file. Then i copied the dvd and made it bootable (did it before, with Ubuntu for example) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63323-getting-an-error-while-installing-macosx/#findComment-448293 Share on other sites
skyhighmac
Nero might be causing the problem. Try using Alcohol 120%, that can read mds natively. Another possible problem: Because you don't know what the release supports, you could be getting kernel panic. At the end of your "ordeal" does it say "Please retart your computer?" sjoerd
Okay i see it is version 10.4.7 and i see a yellow line with the following "Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleHPET and then could't alloc class "AppleHPET" ... and at the end "Still waiting for root device" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63323-getting-an-error-while-installing-macosx/#findComment-448333 Share on other sites
skyhighmac
The "still waiting for root device" is caused by your sata controller, which means you cant install mac os x on that drive. And the HPET problem is because you don't have a core processor. skyhighmac
No. Try JaS. I know its another download but without knowing what your installer disc supports, try JaS. His releases might fix those problems. His releases are also more supported. skyhighmac
Well, everything is a guess. Some poeple with all the same specs and same install dvd cant install, while others can. JaS releases have good support for mobos and cpus. hecker
Since you are having trouble with your SATA drive, you may consider installing OSX on an external drive. You can then clone your installed system over to the original drive with an app named "SuperDuper!"- Cheers, hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63323-getting-an-error-while-installing-macosx/#findComment-450243 Share on other sites

hecker
hm then i should find mysel an external harddisk temporly...Yup. Just make sure your BIOS supports booting from USB beforehand.I always keep a full cloned copy of my OSX on my external enclosure and it has saved me many times. If you have the money, I would recommend you take a look at hard drive enclosures with ethernet and usb support. I bought one for 50 Euros (the price does not include the hard drive) that even has an FTP-Server and SMB-Server (Samba) with full multiple client configuration (individual permission settings of course), dynamic (DHCP) or static IP settings and auto stand-by and logging functions. PM me if you live and Europe and are interested in buying one but can't find it in your city. Cheers, hecker PS: Here's the link of the shop I bought it from: http://www.mc-shop.de/product_info.php/inf...ll-LAN-USB.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63323-getting-an-error-while-installing-macosx/#findComment-450376 Share on other sites
