wilsonworld
UPDATE:!!!! these are my install notes for an OSX86 Install for a Thinkpad A31 (P4 2Ghz, ATI Mobile Radeon 7500). I learned a lot about OSX in general while getting my thinkpad loaded (not to mention x86 specifics). Hope this helps cut back a few hours of experimenting for someone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Install JaS OSX86 AMD/INTEL SSE2 SSE3 Beta V2 Installed 10.4.8 Kernel w/ATA Kexts & 10.4.4 Login Window 2. Do the welcome setup stuff What doesnt work out of the box: Ethernet (on certain installs?) PCMCIA Slots No Battery Status Video (works but in vesa mode) 3. Go to: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=36886 Bookmark this page. its an awesome collection of files. 4. Fix video (as best as possible) Download ATI_7500_Pack.DMG And follow the instructions in the readme!!! So, you don't have to run IOREG -l, the correct IODevice name in AGPGart.ktext is pci8086,1a31 UPDATE !!!! QE does work!! Download Callisto B003 - It works soooooo much better than version 006. - Flurry now runs FAST! http://omni.110mb.com/callisto/ I also have Quartz Extreme enabled by changing the minimum vram setting in /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Configuration.plist 5. Fix Ethernet Port This happened on 1 of the 3 times i installed 10.4.8. my ethernet was loaded but greyed out here is an article if you run into this problem. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...77&hl=8255x 6. Fix PCMCIA Slots Install files from here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...thinkpad+pcmcia 7. Add Battery Status Follow the link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=14912 (Or Above) and download/install the power management bundle 8. Misc Notes: I reset all bios defaults, turned off serial, parallel and Floppy support. This is not required, but it did seem to make the system a bit more stable, but it could be my imagination. When booting with battery power CPU will run at its slowest speed (1.2GHz) there might be a fix for this, so it happens automatically while running, but its not a big issue for me, since i don't run on battery power but for short periods and never do important work without the AC adapter plugged in. For playing DVD's and videos in general, get the MacOSX Intel build of VLC NOT the standard mac version. It will run sooooo much better on the weak 7500 chip Hope this helps, message me for any problems or corrections. I did this to replace an aging G4 (350MHz) so my expectations were low. This system runs great, I dont know if i could use it as my main daily system, but it is great for my mobile computing needs as well as basic use. UPDATE! Since installing and playing with this system, I find that I am using it more and more, Video is the only downside of this machine (the lcd has a max res of 1024x768 and i am use to my larger desktop screen). and the 16M Radeon Mobility 7500 could be more powerful, but i am happy with this as my main laptop right now. Thanks to everyone on this forum and the OSX86 community at large!
