Hi,

I've searched the forums over this problem, I'm seeing it often but they are sorta different than mine. I've dual booted before (WinXP,Fedora Core) But for some reason Mac doesn't detect my hard drive at the installation. I've made a partition for it etc etc , When I insert the dvd it boots from it fine, goes to installation screen, I select disk utilities, its only showing my dvd rom(?)(4.4GB TSSTCorpCD/DVD) then below that it shows the disk name.

Basically to short it up. Mac doesn't detect my hard drive for installation.

I've got the exact same problem.......what if we don't have an IDE hard drive laying around? Won't it work with a SATA HD?? Perhaps a BIOS setting? I have my Peripherals set to IDE (Gigabyte 965P-DS3 mobo) as explained in another topic, but I get the same problem as the OP here.

Did an unallocated partition, did a new simple volume........neither work.

Can't even get out of the starting blocks. Any other ideas besides an IDE drive? Seriously, not everyone here has built with a IDE........some people MUST be using a SATA hard drive........???

maybe you will find some useful info in this thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=28439 or http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=44742

some mac installations cant recognize ds3 mobo hdd ich8 controller if i remember correctly

Figured it out!!!!

2 things:

1) Go into BIOS > Integrated Peripherals, set topmost option to AHCI/Enabled

2) Restart and install DVD....When the boot screen comes up and the hard drive isn't shown, go to Utilities//Disk Utility, then just Erase/Partition the Drive. When it's done, close Disk Utility, and the Boot Menu will then show your hard drive and you're ready to continue!

That's it!!!!

I learned from just trying some different combinations and reading this thread, it's extremely helpful:

EXCEPT.........after I install OS X and the appropriate Intel, Titan, etc.....when I restart it goes to the gray apple screen and then says I need to restart. And if I go back into BIOS and change AHCI then it goes to the gray apple screen, has a circle with line through it (like "no smoking" sign) and then sits there.........with the waiting circle just spinning endlessly. ARGH.

Any ideas what to do after it installs but can't actually boot up? BIOS settings, some missing thing......?? :)

When installing OS X, only install main system and patch for your processor. And see if it boots...

Then install extra packages, one at a time.

It would be easier to determine if the entire configuration is not compatible or if it's only one driver that mess up the system.

B-I-N-G-O!!!!

Now, I'll install packages one at a time and see if there's a problem, then I'll know which and can isolate and continue from there. Even if I have to restart the install from scratch, it doesn't take long. Figuring out the tricky stuff like this takes ALOT longer.

many thanks!!!
