Problem with booting 10.4.8 in VMWare

Hi,

 

I've just tried installing Mac OS X 10.4.8 using VMWare onto my laptop (with an external hard disk drive). Once I had downloaded VMWare Workstation everything was working fine, and I managed to create a seperate partition on my external HDD (16GB out of 320GB) for OS X.

 

When I came to boot up OSX from the Virtual Machine, the boot screen hangs at this screen:

My laptop is the HP Pavilion DV2530ea, with the following specs:
