sambaderio
Hi guys, I really hope somebody may help or give me some hints for this. I'm currently testing OsX Server 10.4.9 on Intel Core2Duo and everything is working great so far except for one problem I just can't seem to solve. Basically when I try to connect to the server machine with Remote Desktop from a client computer (Powerbook G4 running ARD 3.1) the system immediately shouts out a kernel panic... I tried to manually remove the system files which should be dealing with Remote Desktop as outlined in the official admin guide: (/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu\ Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ARDPref.prefPane /System/Library/StartupItems/RemoteDesktopAgent/) and replaced via terminal from another 10.4.9 install but it didn't help. Ports have been unlocked in both OsX Firewall and Little Snitch and I've tried to install ARD on the server in order to connect and control the Powerbook (the other way around) and it works. I found another post here from fireloss who's experiencing the same problem on a normal 10.4.9 install (no server packages) so I'm pretty sure this must be a non-server issue. Does anyone have a clue of what may cause this? Anyone successfully using ARD as a client on 10.4.9 out there? Please help, I'm struggling to find a solution for this! Many thanks, S. ————————— PS I'm on a asus p5l-mx with 2.4Ghz Core2Duo + rocketraid 2320 (8 WD 500 GB on RAID 50) + 2 gigabit lan from Surecom. Installed Jas 10.4.7 and 10.4.7 Server Packages, updated to 10.4.9 Server using the apple combo upd and manually replaced SSE3 Kernel (irc) to 8.9.1 (followed tutorial here) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62943-kernel-panic-when-using-remote-desktop-ard/ Share on other sites

sambaderio
Hi guys, I just followed NeSuKun's instructions and it worked great. This is the thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=43699 All you need is the 10.4.7 installer from the green demon in order to install the files which will turn your normal os x to server version: *ApplicationsServer.pkg *QuickTimeStreamingServer.pkg *ServerAdministrationSoftware.mpkg *ServerAdminTools.pkg *ServerEssentials.pkg *ServerSetup.pkg After having run the official updater to 10.4.9 Server (and force quit) I manually replaced the kernel and the files mentioned in this other thread from Ahmad Moawya: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=45283 using Pacifist extracting from 10.4.9 Jas Updater. Since any slight system set-up variation may give you unexpected results I highly reccommend that u clone your HD before proceding (ok...you know already but best to write it anyway!). I used Clonetool Hatchery which is rock-solid. Hope this helps... Happy serving! PS Still trying to sort out the Remote Desktop kernel panic. Any little help or idea would be hugely appreciated!!
