External display on notebook

gforce 7400 go 128mb ? maybee 256 unsure

15" notebook screen

21" samsung monitor

 

i have osx installed fine on dual boot with vista .

 

i'm trying to get it to work with my external monitor . as when at home i always have a 21" screen plugged into the notebook and external mouse/keyboard.

 

on a stock install i get display on both notebook screen and external monitor, however text screws up so not really a usable system .

i've tried titan & natit both cure the graphics problems but i lose the external monitor display on both . (monitor goes into power save mode)

 

where am i going wrong .. how can i force osx to use the monitor rarther than than the notebook screen
