kyle elkins
my first used ibook wich only lasted 3 days ( ughh) had a sleep light that blinked on the front of the ibook.. Now i have gotten my replacement and it doesnt have one. Is there a way i can turn it on, or do i not have one? my ibook is a g3 600 mhz.. although i used to be a 800 i believe because of a sticker beneth the key board. Do i need to replace the light? if so how much will it cost and is it a hard task? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62651-no-sleep-light-on-ibook/ Share on other sites

They probably forgot to reinstall the sleep light LED. These things are NOTORIOUSLY difficult to work on. The case must have been designed by a mad scientist. If you decide to replace the light, Ifixit.com has walkthroughs with photos on case disassembly. I used them myself while upgrading the HDD in my 700 last week. It took me 4 hours to do, whereas all my Windows laptops have taken about 15 minutes on average. kyle elkins
yeah it was a repo... new hard drive, maxed ram ( different companies) and the new logic board... so could the light still be in the case and just maybe not reconnected? Im Assuming that it is connected to the logic board somehow.. thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62651-no-sleep-light-on-ibook/#findComment-444496 Share on other sites
Celticmoon
You will never know unless you open it and look, and yes, it would be connected to the logic board. The LED assembly is held in with a single tiny screw. Its just GETTING to that screw that's the real chore.
