c-rock
Hey all. I've been bumming around these forums since forever but this is the first time I've bothered to register/post. I'm a graphic design student and need a new machine since my poor old toshibia is getting outpaced from all the new tech. So I went and priced out all the new macs and was pretty dumbfounded by the fact that there are only 5 computer models, two of which have intergrated gma950 gfxs . They don't even have the top flagship graphic cards listed as build to order options ex. Pro! The only one you could expand (without a putty knife) is the Pro and thats way out of my price range. But anyways enough about apples marketing techniques... I have a B&W G3 thats I picked up for 20 bucks and I love the way the whole computer is set up, but its about useless for any real work (I have a G4 that stomps it) So I've researched abunch of info on such a mod and decided to go ahead with it and I will be dual booting it with vista and playing games along with using Adobe CS. So heres my two builds for this project, the cheap "will work without much headache" one and the "fast directx10 semi gaming monster" that will have some problems. Is it worth it to go with a cheaper slower system with better compatablity, or a monster that will be a bit tricky to dial in? I'd really like to have the faster one but I'm worried about gfx drivers and the IDE channels not working on the mb (I'll have to buy a new hd). Also if any one has a suggestion for a nice micro-ATX board that supports quad core that is more compatable I'm all ears. Also heat won't be an issue, I have some plans. A Nonny Moose
Unless you're running Aperture, you won't miss anything from the GPU.... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62230-hack-in-a-bw-g3/#findComment-440953 Share on other sites
c-rock
I play alot of games and do light 3d modeling so I want something with a little kick. I'm used to using a Radeon 9000 so anything new or intergrated is prolly work better then that lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62230-hack-in-a-bw-g3/#findComment-441054 Share on other sites
A Nonny Moose
Again, unless you're running Aperture (or if that modeling program heavily relies on the GPU) then you won't miss it.
