bonestonne
1) unless absolutely necessary, never unplug a hard drives data or power cable while the computer is running. and by absolutely necessary, i mean your computer needs to be on fire. 2) if you can reach the grey apple boot screen, try holding down shift, and it'll take a while, but you should be able to get into safe mode. when you installed Mac, did you have the XP drive plugged in? its possible that the installation is corrupt, and you may need to do it over. unless you're setting up a dual or triple boot setup, do not have anything extra in your computer. next time it installs, if you skipped the install DVD check, try letting that run through, your DVD may have a problem. make sure that your drives are configured master and slave properly if using IDE, and if you're using SATA, make sure you're plugging them into the proper ports on the motherboard, and also make sure that you aren't installing while plugged in through one bus, and then trying to boot from a different bus. it will cause lots of confusion to the OS, and will make running difficult. Iam using an IDE Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60868-cant-start-up-cpu-after-install/#findComment-432003 Share on other sites
gameking21
okay i got past the first boot screen that shows gateway F2 F10 options.(i had to add a bootable hard drive and it takes about 2 min to get out of the screen instead of 2 sec) and it goes to the screen the shows where it is booting off of cd flopy hard drive ect.. it bypases the drives and tryies to boot off a cd. so i went in to the bios and put hard drives as the first boot option rebooted and again bypases the hard drives and goes right tho the cd.i then restarted and pushed f10 and selected boot off my vista hard drive and it goes to cd instead. So i put the mac install cd in a booted up the cd loaded and when i whent to the disk manager it showed no hard drives present. i had two in one i installed mac on and one with vista.i turned off the computer and unpluged the mac drive and started up once in the install it showed the vista hard drive. i then thought i would try to use some of my linux live cds and when they were starting they said dvd drive loaded okay but once it went to the hard drives thier was an eror unbootable some RCR or some thing of that sort. once they loaded they showed no hard drives present. i tried all the diffrent pin config on the hard drive to change it fron slave to master to whatever. none worked.
