I'm testing out a new procedure to install a) Tiger 1111A and B) WindowsXP in that order. My goal here is to install both operating system without the use of any 3rd party disk utilities. That means installing OSX and Winxp without installing Acronis, partitionmagik, using Live CD, or downloading fdisk. You will ultimately be using the Darwin bootloader to be able to boot in either XP or OSX once everything is done. So no more chain0, Grub/LILO, or other boot managers.

Prerequisites

Software:

- macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg

- WindowsXP Pro Installer Disk

- Maxxuss Patched kernel v3.0 test 1

- JaS PPF patch for 10.4.3 8f1111

- UltraISO

Optional:

- VMWare if no DVD writer

- Daemon Tools if no DVD writer

Hardware:

- blank hard drive at least 20gig

- P4 SSE2 or SSE3 processor

- no less than 1gig DDR

- Intel motherboard (915, 865, or compatable)

- Intel on-board AGP, ATI 9800, or compatable

- on-board AC97 sound card

- on-board realtek Network Card

- KB and mouse (USB or PS2)

Optional:

- DVD writer if no vmware

I have tested it myself and my procedure worked. I just need 1 or 2 people to confirm it. If you think your are a good candidate and you need help installing a dual boot system, post your system specs here.

Only post your important details such as the example outlined below

=============================

Mother Board: Shuttle 865g

Processor Type: P4 2.8GHz, SSE2

Memory: 1gig DDR

Hard Drive: 40gig

Video Card: ATI 9800 Pro

Mouse/Kb: USB

=============================

These is what I can think of at the moment and most prolly will change within the next few hours or days. If I think you are a good candidate, I will PM you with details.

* Please do not PM or email me. Those that do will never get a reply

* Do not copy your whole system specs from Everest, Sisoft Sandra, or what have you

* Do not ask where to download WindowsXP or Tiger DMG

Happy Holidays!

Not sure why you particularly want to do it in the order OSX followed by XP? However the other way around it is very very easy.

You need 2 Drives!! otherwise you will be destroying the other OS everytime you install. One of those could be S-ATA but that needs to become the XP drive. Preferably two ATA drives.

First install XP.

Copy in the root (C:\) the MacOSX file chain0. Not sure where the link for this file is but it can easily be found.

Open in XP boot.ini. (hidden and system file so You need to make it visible via Tools/Folder options.

Add the following line in boot.ini: C:\chain0="Mac OS X"

Now install OSX86 from the DVD and you are ready to go. From the windows bootloader you can select either XP or OSX.

Added later. :P

Sorry, I didn't notice you also did not like the Chain0 file option. In that case I think you have your work cut out for you .

Actually I have already done it in VMWare and in addition, I also added Ubuntu and Fedora Core 3 to the boot menu, still using darwin boot loader. I just don't feel enclined to wipe my production system to test my method. Hence this thread.
