MacFeast
This problem might be related to other problems I've been having with my CPU and PAE (see http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...=0entry37575), but I'm not sure. Anyway, when the installer starts copying files, the "blue screen of death" (or what it's called, the multilanguage "please reboot" message) comes. It comes after about 1% of copying. Also, if I don't cancel the dvd check, the mouse cursor sometimes freezes after a few minutes of checking. What could be the problem? Technobob
Try making a new DVD from scratch, it could be simple as a bad patching or dmg to iso conversion. MacFeast
Are there checksums available somewhere? And also, what tool is the best for converting DMG to ISO? I used UltraISO under wine... MacFeast
I think the crashes are random, and not occurring at a specific point in the installation process. Last time I got to 12% of base system 1, which is further than I've gotten before. I also got a panic when messing about with the installer's terminal and once when opening the menu bar. This could be were your problem is, do you have XP or search for a native linux converter. MacFeast
Okay this is really insane. The DMG format is not documented anywhere, nor is there any tools to convert DMT to ISO except for some perl script that's not working. I guess i've got to stick with my iso.... it's probably not the problem anyway Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5969-crashes-while-copying-files/#findComment-37633 Share on other sites
thrunner
Are there checksums available somewhere? And also, what tool is the best for converting DMG to ISO? I used UltraISO under wine... Get the latest version of UltraISO and run under WinXP if possible (borrow one?). Or borrow a Mac and burn DMG. MacFeast
I really don't think Wine is the problem, patching maybe, but not DMG->ISO, if UltraISO itself has worked for other people. Wine can crash, but if it works, it usually does things as expected. I've got XP on the machine I'm installing OSX on but it's got a very small HD and a 11MBps WLAN connection so it's not really meant for manipulate large DVD ISOs. But anyway, checksums would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Here are my checksums by the way: (MD5) macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg -- d2bc2f73b4cd426425a8520dc798a1e0 macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso -- 6d77416ff46d68cf293e9989672a452b patched.iso -- d36d2051fde8d7aae08d2df2534fbbb3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5969-crashes-while-copying-files/#findComment-37644 Share on other sites
MacFeast
OK, I now have the kernel panic error: panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0019BE02): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 0=divide error), registers: blah blah (if you need more info, I can write it down, but it's a lot) Backtrace: 0xb2534a4 : 0x128b42 (....) And now it happened when I was in system profiler too. The error seems really random.... I tried removing all devices like USB mouse, disabling WLAN and bluetooth in BIOS, booting failsafe. No change.... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5969-crashes-while-copying-files/#findComment-37656 Share on other sites
MacFeast
I tried the maxxuss v3-test1 kernel and the v2e kernel. Both of these gave me the following kernel panic either when copying install files or trying to make a disk image of the install cd (from the installer itself). Maybe this panic has to do with heavy I/O? panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0019BEB2): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 0=divide error), registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0x00749000, CR3: 0x00d55000, CR4: 0x000006a0 EAX: 0xfffffff8, EBX: 0x0b273dec, ECX: 0x02f877f2, EDX: 0x02faf07f ESP: 0x0b273db4, EBP: 0x0b273e14, ESI: 0x02f877f2, EDI: 0x0b273dec EFL: 0x00010202, EIP: 0x0019a2d6, CS: 0x00000008, DS: 0x01c30010 Debugger called: <panic> Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0xb273c80 : 0x128b42 (0x3b8ce0 0xb273ca4 0x130c68 0x0) 0xb273cc0 : 0x19beb2 (0x3bde9c 0x0 0x0 0x3bdb84) 0xb273d70 : 0x196647 (0xb273d84 0xb273e14 0x19a2d6 0x48) ..... now my fingers hurt if more is needed please say so Here are my specs: Computer: Dell Inspiron 8600 CPU: Intel Pentium M 1.4 GHz (SSE2, no PAE or NX) Graphics: ATI Radeon Mobile 9600 Pro Memory: 2x256 MB DDR333 HDD: 60 GB: 40 GB NTFS (Pri 0) + 16.5 GB HFS+ (Pri 1) Last time I tried, 10.4.1 installed without any problems. 8F1099 did not boot at all due to the PAE problem with my CPU. Technobob
Maxxuss just released a new kernel yesterday v3.0 test 1. It works for me. You may need to apply the RTC patch for it to work with your Dell system. http://win2osx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2122&page=38 Edited December 21, 2005 by Technobob Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5969-crashes-while-copying-files/#findComment-37841 Share on other sites
