Whenever I plug my MBP to be charged and use it while it is charging, the fans always climb up to around 4000 rpm and more, even if I'm just browsing the internet or doing things that are not CPU intensive. The RPMs are fine and controllable when it is fully charged and running off the power adapter, also while running off battery power. This fan situation only exists when I am using it while it is charging. Is this normal for the MBP to do? Do any of you have this happen to you? I will be calling apple care tomorrow about this, but I just wanted to see here first if this happens to anybody else or just me... or if it something to worry about. Thanks! It could be normal, I suppose, but it didn't happen to me so you should definitely call support and see what they say. speag Posted August 13, 2007 Share Posted August 13, 2007 Same here (new 17" MBP v3) - when charging from almost flat, the fans spin up to 6000rpm and stay there. Others report the same thing - e.g. see comments here. It seems like the flatter the battery, the harder it spins the fans - perhaps rightly so, if the battery gets hot when charging fast (the power supply certainly does!). The problem seems to be that it's reluctant to lower the fan speed again as the battery charges. I found that pulling the power cord and waiting until it's recalculated the charge remaining before plugging back in seems to force it to reconsider how fast the fans need to be, and it'll continue charging with slighly less extreme fan speeds. I'm just installing the new 1.1 Software Update, but it doesn't look like it will change this at all.
