Grey-Echo
So I installed JaS 1.4.8 and a couple days later, I decided to get some drivers for my video card, an nVidia GeForce FX Go5650. I first checked out the Titan Auto-Installer and installed it, restarting my computer. Next time I rebooted, I got the classic black screen "Power off or Restart Your Computer" screen. I knew what to do: delete the files via -v -s. So I did, and I got back into OSx86. Then I tried MacVidia. I rebooted. I got a transparent black screen over my gray apple loading window, which has never happened to me before, and I thought it strange. Well then, I deleted the files as I did Titan. Thinking this would solve the problem, I rebooted again, but now OSx86 is stuck at the gray apple loading window with the spinning disk, and it's been sitting there for hours at a time. Any suggestions BESIDES a reinstall? It'd really be a pain at this point. So many downloads. bonestonne
turn it off, turn it back on, when it gets to the grey screen, hold down shift and see if it changes...it wont be a quick change. that should take you into safe mode. Grey-Echo
Forgot to say I tried it. Did it again just to make sure, and I started at Darwin this time, which is actually when I think you're suppose to hold it down. Either way, it looks like a reinstall is in order. If safe mode is dead, I don't see much of a choice to be honest. More suggestions are encouraged though. Thanks bonestonne. tomika
Hi, you can try leave a install DVD in to drive, when a computer get into boot mode, then you have from 8 sec to zero to enter in MacOS x setup. Do not press ENTER to going in setup mode, leave this counter to zero , and MacOSx will starting normal. Grey-Echo
Thanks for the reply, tomika. I tried it and it produced a bit more HD activity, but ended in the same result. Whatever I did caused some permanent damage. lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59646-gray-apple-screen/#findComment-424673 Share on other sites
