I got lucky getting this board when it came to installing Jas 10.4.8 on it. Everything went smooth when i put in my IDE-Hard Drive from my external enclosure. Durring installation I can see all 400GB & even 500GB on my new IDE drive, I selected the intel package as well as the nvidia titan driver, im not sure if i should also use logginapp package or anything else besides the normal things like X11 & Fonts.

The real problems begin when i reboot and os x starts up aside from sound wich i fixed, and the Ralink USB driver for my D-Link DWLG122 I have no ethernet and strange things like my secondary IDE not working and both my Hard Drives are capped at 128GB. I also cannot seem to see my SATA Hard Drive. ^_^

Finaly, I cannot seem to update to 10.4.9. Im no pro, but i know a bit, If anyone could please point me in the right direction to fix this stuff please do. I have been searching google like a mad man trying to figure this out. I seem to get nowhere between my lack of time and normal day to day routines. I thankyou in advance it would mean the world to me. :(

Make sure that when you install you select to use your whole 400GB or 500GB drive, not just a partition that's 128GB. Also, while it's good you selected the nVidia drivers from JaS's package menu, I also recommend the choose the JaS Intel package, and, if you go under "Common drivers" or something of that nature, select the package mentioning Intel as well.

After you've reinstalled and done this, get back to me and we'll see if anything has improved.

Thankyou ECHO

i took your advice and this is how and what happened.

I decided to start small and move my way up as i get things in working order, So i yanked out all but my IDE 500GB HD and my IDE DVD-RW Drive.

When installation launched i followed your directions and chose to use one partition for the entire drive.

When prompted i selected Titan NVidiaNV40 package & the JAS Intel Package Plus the azalia audio package. Everything went smooth except for not being able to reboot, but i have a power button. it sticks at the black screen saying

"continuing

done

MACH Reboot"

__________

so after i manualy rebooted the computer OS X started up just fine as usual and i preceeded to setup my username and settings.

first things first i opened my disk utility and took a gander at my storage

- my HD still shows up as 128GB tottal capacity but the partition exceeds that amount and goes to 462GB. im pretty sure that will cause some issues down the line because it did in the past. Plus it would be convenient to partition my data so that if OSX comes crashing down i dont take all my programs and media with it. I sill have all my data on the other two HD's however i have to use my secondary IDE to access it.

- OSX still does not see my Sec IDE. not even durring the installation and i never has. so i have to swap out my optical drive with my hard drive to see the second HD. :D

Other than these two things i still need a few other things fixed.

-sata

-ethernet

-reboot hang

-10.4.9 & 10 update makes my computer reboot over and over before i even get to the grey apple

Thanks again for your input, im sure you understand what i means to me as i am a noob to the hacintosh comunity. Please keep in touch, i look forward to your advice.

Check your JaS installation DVD and your CD-ROM/DVD drive and make sure the latest BIOS for your drive is installed. If everything seems in order, manually shutting down the computer like you did should have been okay, as long as the installation was finished and was attempting to reboot on its own. If it was in the middle of installing or starts to do this before it gets to the finished window, check which packages you installed and confirm they're the correct ones for your system. Make sure you install the "loginwindow" package, as it fixes some errors like this as well as errors within OSx86 after login, especially if you haven't installed this package already, as it's for Intel processors. I'm sorry that I forgot to mention that package before in my last reply.

1. The fact that your HD still shows up as 128GB after your last installation tells me that you're fine. It may cause some issues down the line like you said, but really, there's not much you can do. The fact that any system built by Mac hasn't come with a HD over 128GB in capacity is not something you control, so it seems you're going to have to see what happens. I recommend you at least make an effort though, installing the latest BIOS for your HD as well as any drivers you can manage to find for OSx86. Search long and hard, and if you can't find the BIOS or the driver or any of them, you can at least say you tried.

2. You MUST have all devices you wish to use connected to the computer BEFORE installation. This means any mouse, keyboard, speakers, MP3 players, ethernet cards, ethernet cables - literally EVERYTHING. The is because OSx86 is not like Windows XP or Windows Vista in that it's Plug-and-Play system is still every immature and standard, not supporting most devices unless they are familiar to it. You can override this by plugging in everything you want to use before you even turn on the computer and put in your installation DVD. When the installation begins, many of the necessary drivers and settings are loaded so that the devices can be used during installation, and these drivers and settings are saved onto your operating system as long as they remain plugged-in. I believe you said this drive you want to use was disconnected, so I recommend you connect it along with everything you think you'd ever want to use on your system, and reinstall.

As for your other issues...

- SATA -

SATA drives are not supported by most installations at this time. If your motherboard supports it, go into your BIOS and see if you can change your SATA connection to AHCI, if it isn't set to that already. If that doesn't help, you'll have to see if you can get some drivers by searching around the web. I don't know of anyone who's been able to get a SATA drive fully operational as of yet, but you can look around for yourself if you'd like.

-Ethernet -

There's been a lot of drivers coming out for integrated ethernet for Linux and OSX, so if you look around the forums, you might find something. It doesn't need to be a perfect match, as you can try drivers for similar models or models made around the same time. Don't expect a perfect match, that's all I'm trying to say.

- Reboot Hang -

This happened to me a lot, and usually means some sort of driver failure. Make sure you installed all of the right packages. if you think you did, again, search the forums for a solution. Worse comes to worse, you should be able to shut down your computer manually each time you need to without any real data loss, just make sure you confirm this yourself after doing it the first time. If you do it and find yourself stuck at the gray apple screen or with a message telling you to restart your computer, then you'll need to reinstall. OSx86 isn't very stable when it comes to this, so just be careful when you manually shut down your computer until you find a solution yourself.

- Excessive Rebooting Before Gray Apple Screen -

Not much to say here. Try putting in your installation DVD before you start your computer, then see if that boots into the OS. If it does, then it has something to do with your GRUB bootloader, which is a pretty minor issue, but a pain in the...buttox...to fix. If it doesn't, you've got a pretty serious problem on your hands. Make sure all packages you installed seem okay and that you didn't end your installation too early - that it was at its finished menu and just trying to reboot itself when it hung at that error. If none of this works, look on the forums for a solution, as I'm pretty sure people have had the same problem and have gotten it fixed. This has never happened to me, so I can't say I'm familiar with it.

Sorry I wasn't able to get back to you earlier. Thanks for the PM, as otherwise I wouldn't have known you replied. Tell me what's up after all of this and we'll see what else we can do. Follow my directions, steps, and suggestions, and I think at least one fix will come out of this. Who knows, maybe they're all connected. Anyhow, good luck. I'm rooting for you.
