snelephant
Hi, I am brand new to Apple and OSX86 and can use a some assistance. There has been encouraging partial success in my first attempt to install OSX86 on my IBM Thinkpad T40. I am following the machine specific instructions in this thread. So far I have installed uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3, and OSX boots to the desktop successfully, provided I specify the boot device at startup. To solve the boot device issue, as per the instructions I am attempting to install the appleAPIC.kext from the JAS 10.4.8 DVD using Pacifist. However, when I attempt to install said package, Pacifist gives the following error: 'The file "/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/Pacifist Temp/Essentials Folder/./System/Library/Extensions/AppleAPIC.kext" does not exist' This error occurs if I tell Pacifist to install using the default installation location, or if I tell Pacifist explicitly to extract the kext to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder on my hard drive as instructed. I notice there is a var folder on the JAS DVD, could this be confusing Pacifist? Is there a problem with my method? Or is the problem elsewhere, such as with permissions? On the JAS DVD, the appleAPIC.kext is in the "essentials" package located at /System/Installation/Packages. Any tips on getting this kext installed would be greatly appreciated by a Mac neophyte.
