I spent a considerable amount of time getting my T41 working properly with OSX 10.4.9. Here is what I was able to accomplish and not accomplish. I hope this helps some of you.

What you need:

Thinkpad T41

UpHuck 1.3 OSX86 Disk

RadeonTool

PowerManagement.bundle

AppleAPIC.kext from the 10.4.6 or 10.4.8 Install DVD

Pacifier to extract the AppleAPIC.kext from OSX DVD

What to expect:

Intel A/B/G Wireless - Working

Bluetooth - Working

Intel NIC - Working

Radeon 9000 Mobility - Working (1280x1024x32, No CI or QE)

AC97 Sound - Working

ACPI - Working (Battery meter works, No Hibernation, Sleep works)

basically everything works with very few exceptions.

Boot on the Uphuck DVD.

When you get to the install menu then choose tools at the top and Disk Utility.

Setup a partition for OSX.

Install OSX to that partition.

Choose the following options.

- Universal Kernel 3

- AppleACPI.kext patch

- Login.app patch

- IOATAFamily.kext patch

- IO80211Family.kext driver

Finish install

You will not boot sucessfully yet. leave the DVD in yet. when prompted press F8 and enter the following.

rd=disk(x)s(y) - x=drive# y=partition#

when you get into OSX copy the AppleAPIC.kext to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder.

Eject DVD

Reboot the system

You will boot properly into OSX now.

Copy the PowerManagement.Bundle into /System/Library/SystemConfiguration

Now your battery meter works

reboot

install Radeontools

Now your screen will blank in sleep

reboot

Now all that is left is your screen resolution is 1024x768x32

you must edit the com.apple.Boot.plist

add the following lines:

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280×1024×32</string>

save update

reboot

You now have a working Hackintosh on a Thinkpad T41. I hope this is helpful.

I installed using only the selections that you listed. When clicking F8 at boot I get a prompt to select partition to boot. I type "rd=disk(x)s(y) - x=drive# y=partition#" at the prompt as instructed. After that the apple boot screen appears and then hangs.

Can you help me out?

Thanks in advance!

Great, I have a T41p and will try.HOW to: (?)What you need: (as you state)RadeonTool <---where to get, how to install?PowerManagement.bundle <---where to get, how to installAppleAPIC.kext from the 10.4.6 or 10.4.8 Install DVD <---where to get how to installPacifier to extract the AppleAPIC.kext from OSX DVD <------how to extract, get (which OSX DVD), useYou will not boot sucessfully yet. leave the DVD in yet. when prompted press F8 and enter the following.rd=disk(x)s(y) - x=drive# y=partition#(therefore, rd=disk01) <----I'll assume it's correct for 1 hard disk with 1 partition)when you get into OSX copy the AppleAPIC.kext to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. <---exact command(s) from/to??????Eject DVDReboot the systemYou will boot properly into OSX now.Copy the PowerManagement.Bundle into /System/Library/SystemConfiguration <---i.e. (?) cp ??????????Now your battery meter worksrebootinstall Radeontools <----how to install? Now your screen will blank in sleeprebootAlso, Universal Kernel & Universal Kernel 2 are only 2 available kernels on uphuck 1.3 DVD....so where is that then?

Additional tip for users following instructions above: To successfully install the appleAPIC.kext from the 10.4.6 DVD, you may have to explicitly delete any previously existing appleAPIC.kext on your hard drive. My installation did not boot successfully until I deleted, then reinstalled the kext.

Has you replaced the "#" symbol for the propper drive number and partiton number of the drive where you instalation was done?

I tried following the instructions using uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i and it did not work. Maybe it is because the kernel is different and some of the options are not available (ie IOATAFamily.kext patch). I am now downloading uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3.

My question is really about how to obtain (sources for download) the following:

- AppleAPIC.kext from the 10.4.6 or 10.4.8 Install DVD

- PowerManagement.bundle

- RadeonTool

I am a long time unix and windows user testing the waters with OS X - any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello guys. I am also an owner of T41(actually T42 after a service repair :gun:

I have never had the honour to use OS X and I am keen of trying that. But guys - I'd like to ask about something. As I understand it, it takes time and patience to install OS X in this "alternative" way. I want to know - is it worth on this machine? We all know it's an elderly piece and we can't expect much performance from it. Can you actually *use* OS X on the machine ? (I'd like to actively use it, not just try it)

Thanks

Jan
