Okay, my current setup is an HP dv8000 laptop, 1.67ghz core duo, 1 gig ram, with 2 hard drives. One contains windows XP and the other contains ubuntu. I use grub bootloader version 1.5. Is there any way that I can install osx86 onto an external hard drive and boot to it from my grub bootloader screen (or just normal windows bios)?

Also, if I can boot from an external hard drive, can I use an old 20 gig ipod I have lying around as that HD?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I try to update to 10.4.10 on my external harddrive, but need to edit in Terminal after booting an install dvd.

I boot after install with my uphuck 1.0.4.9 v.1.3 dvd and check that all drives are mounted in Disk Util. Then I close Disk Util and open Terminal.

I cannot type

cd /Volumes/OSXHD/System/Library/Extensions/

Can't fint /Volumes/etc.

I know my path to files etc is right. Nothing happens when I type : sudo -s either. Get unknown command.

Says terminal Bash in the Terminal Window.

What am I doing wrong?

Type 3 or 4 times cd .. to get out back to the root directory. with ls you can list the content of the directory you are.

In root dir there should be a entry with volumes!

Okay, update. I went to my desktop PC, and I was able to install OSx86 on my ipod. I have an nvidia card on my lappy, so I checked the nvidia box, and the NTFS and extf2 boxes, along with the main system. however, once I finished and went back to my laptop to try and boot, It sat at the apple logo and finally I got a circle witha line through it, like a no smoking sign.Next, I ran in verbose mode, and it stopped and kept outputting "still waiting for root"Any ideas now?Okay, I just found this:http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...e.22_message.3FDisconnecting my other hard drives is out of the question, so how do I go about changing bootloaders on my ipod? I can mount the device in ubuntu and browse the contents, so hopefully it will be pretty easy from there.
