Hi, first of all great forum, and i'm really excited to get mac os x working on my machine.

Here is what have happened.

1. Installed Uphuck 10.4.9 everything went fine, rebooted and I was able to select windows or mac osx with the mac boot loader, then slected macosx, and just get the apple loading then blank screen, either in normal mode or in safe mode.

2. Tried to reinstall Uphuck, this time not installing any of the graphics drivers so I could boot in the simplest graphic mode and then install an updated driver...but it failed to install saying that there was an error on the installation process, and then rebooted and voila the mac boot loader was also messed up and I couldn't boot windows nor macosx....

3. to fix things up I used ubuntu 7.04 cd, installed it, just to get grub to boot into my windows partition and try to find a way to fix the problem.

4. I thought maybe the problem was Uphuck's DVD, so I donwloaded Jas 10.4.8 and burned it, then from windows used partition magic to delete the linux partition and make it ready for Macosx (since I don't have a lot of room on my hard drive).

5. Installed macosx from Jas DVD, everything went fine, and I was hoping that it would reinstall the macosx boot loader so I can boot windows or mac...but it didn't instead I just got an error message when I boot that says GRUB error 17 (which has something to do with the type of partiton it's running in)...and here I'm using the Ubuntu live cd to write this message....

I've managed to run mac osx using the DVD startup Utility, but I'm not able to boot onto Windows with that, and also since I have a broadcom eth card I can't get internet working on the mac, and I kinda need it... ;) ...

I think pretty much what I need is a way to reinstall the mac boot loader from Macosx, and I sure think that is possible is just that I'm completely n00b with mac, and don't have a clue on how to do it...!!

My hard drive is 80 GB, I have 35GB Windows NTFS then 6 GB reserved to Macosx (primary partition) ,35 GB for data (FAT32), and 3 GB of ACER back up thing..

I'm running a ACER ASPIRE 1692WLMI

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanx in advance!

I had a similar problem when I tried to install linux on an external HDD. Whenever I would remove the External, GRUB boot error. For about a month I was stuck with my External plugged into my computer. But then one day I had come across a "windows recovery console." This is extremely easy to acess if you have a windows xp install disk (Pray you do  ). If you do you can boot into it and at the prompt type

 fixmbr

This will repair the master boot record so that you will be able to boot into windows. Its the default windows boot loader (MBR: Master Boot Record) Although you cannot get the mac boot loader, you can edit window's boot.ini file you let you choose to boot between Mac Os X and Windows. I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but its a start right? Hope I could help.

(To edit the boot.ini file you hold down the windows key and press "pause|break", click on advanced, click on settings under startup and recovery, and click edit.)

thanx macfan, but I tried that and I just get "Error Loading operating System".....anyway after that I downloaded Super Grub Disk, and now I'm able to boot both partitions (windows and mac), but I got to use the disk every time...

I need a better permanent fix...if anyone knows! plz
