Hey all,

So I installed that small program called TV Shows to streamline my torrent show downloading; however, I noticed that one day when I got home Opera was open and said "Are you sure you want to downlaod this torrent" or something like that. I have never installed opera on my computer (that I can think of) and if I have in the distant past, I would have app zapped it. So I looked in applications...no opera.

I then searched the computer and found two files that had been 'created' that day. In Library->Application Support there was an Opera folder and in Library->Preferences there was an Opera Preferences folder. Other than that I found nothing. So I deleted those two folders and figured I was fine.

Then a couple days went by and again Opera was open showing the same message. I searched my computer again and I found those same folders 'created' that day. I searched more thoroughly and found a couple misc files in Library->Caches and then deleted everything again. I then was opening an html file that night and went to Open With and noticed Opera 9.20 and Opera 9.10 were in the list. Curious, I opened the file with Opera and again, all those same folders were created.

What's going on here. Is there some hidden Opera app somewhere? How can I thoroughly remove Opera from my system, and get it out of the Open With section!

Thanks, Matt

A guy in the Opera forums graciously helped me out. He told me to open up Opera and then right click it in the dock and the "show in finder." That shows you where the application folder is located (in my case it was part of the Adobe CS3 Bridge). I app zapped that program and it deleted all the preferences and applications supports. Then I went to the Open With for another html file and noticed opera was still there...I opened it and right clicked on "show in finder" and found it was also located in another place (forgot where). I app zapped that and then it disappeared for good!

So xplizid, if you'd like to remove it, try that.

Matt

i dunno, maybe because web designers want to see what their sites look like in opera...but they could just download it if they wanted to do that. probably some stupid deal between opera and adobe. blah i hate extra programs i didnt want to install but were installed anyway.
