I've got an Athlon XP, but unfortunately it doesn't support SSE2+...

So I'm toying with the idea of finding a cheap upgrade to start fiddling with OSx86.

My main requirement is that sound in and out work. I've looked around the wiki and only found one board that is reported to have sound in working --> MSI 915GVM3-V.

Searching around the forums, I found another candidate. The ASUS P5GZ-MX.

Essentially I'm looking to upgrade the mainboard/cpu. I've got all the other parts more or less.

Things like working network and other compatibilities are a plus, but not essential. The purpose for me here is to be able to record my guitar into garageband, without having to purchase a mac =D

Any advice is appreciated with respect to motherboard/cpu choice.

I'm not looking to create a super powerful computer in the process if it will save me money, im surviving with my athon xp 2400 quite contently.

Thanks,

Christian.

Look around on the wiki. It depends what your budget is and how fast you need your computer to be. You'll see that there are MANY supported boards. Mainly intel.

The ASUS P5GZ-MX is a good board, esp. when combined with the e4300 cpu...

If you read my post, I have been through the wiki and only found one compatible board with sound in. I also found the board you mentioned (stated in my post as well). I was asking for alternatives that people have had specific success with garageband, or recording.
