You don't really need to defrag your harddrive since osx does it automatically for you. The only thing that you really have to do is fix your permissions.
Be careful when fixing permissions. All OSX does is really reset the file's permissions to a default setting and doesn't really "fix" anything. There is also no reason to include this in your maintenance process unless something is not working as it should.

I recommend a free program called "Onyx" to do maintenance work.

Maybe some one can answer this issue of mine.

My friend has a MB. Now when it was new bootup was in seconds. Now it takes 1 min at the Grey Apple Logo and then half a minute more at the LoginWindow. I have noticed his lappy has become slow too.

Why does this happen? Is OSX also like XP. XP slows down much faster though, but still I didnot expect OSX to slow down so much. I cleaned all his caches, repaired Permissions and did all maintenance tasks in Onyx. But no improvement. Help??

I have tried all scripts and he has about 20GB free on his HDD.

@Hecker What did you mean "Is your friend using QuickSilver by any chance?" What is wrong with QuickSilver?

Try this, Right after you turn it on, hold down Option+Command+P+R after like 15 seconds or so it will reboot, keep holding this down util you rebooted 3 times, this should fix the problem.
