I was getting the very same problem on mu Asus F3Jp laptop. I would boot the install cd with -v -x and do the install only to get the "cannot find the driver for platform: ACPI" error when I try to boot the new installation.

First thing I did to fix it is quit booting the install disk with flags. At my level of experience (mid-level), if the install DVD won't boot to the installer without flags, forget it. I downloaded "Mac OS X 10.4.9 Intel SSE3 [JaS 10.4.8 AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2.iso + JaS.10.4.9.Combo.Update.Intel.SSE3.zip]" and my laptop boots and installs without getting the ACPI crash. I have other problems now, but I'm finally past the ACPI-related one. Also, this image is the first one that actually installs the JAS intel software on my machine, instead of giving me the "please try installing again"

I also found that the whole process goes smoother if I burn the image to a DVD-R, instead of an RW or a DVD+R. I don't know why, but it seems to make a difference. I've also had better success if I format the hard disk with Mac extended partition for the install instead of the UNIX filesystem.

Best of luck!
