TvvqKMZ72bsklauw5 Posted July 27, 2007 Share Posted July 27, 2007 For some reason, when I get to boot into the installer for Mac OS X on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5100-3357) I try and go to partition my drive but for some reason it is not recognized; only the DVD "Super Multi Drive" is recognized. Anything I can do to get it recognized? Everything else works fine. Also, since I'm posting trouble with the install, I might as well ask this: Will my laptop run OSx86? I want to know whether there are drivers out there that support my laptop. Here's the tech specs: AMD Turion 64 2.0 Ghz 1 GB (2 x 512 MB) PC2-5300 RAM 120 GB SATA HDD (110 GB for main, 10 for "restore partition" that came preloaded) 15.4" Widescreen 1280 x 800 DVD Super Multi Drive 3 USB, 1 Dial-up (don't care about it), Ethernet ...I can get more details about the laptop if needed. Thanks anyone who can help with this issue. I'm hoping to remove the Vista Partition and just put OS X on there (at least knowing it works and then I might try and dual-boot depending on how well OS X works out on the laptop). Sorry, forgot to add those details Video: ATi Radeon Xpress 1100 Sound: RealTek HD Audio Ehternet: RealTek 810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC go into the Bios,in ide controls and turn compatible mode on your hd ...that should work ... I looked in the BIOS and there isn't a setting that can turn on compatible mode on my HDD. Gary Crowhurst Posted July 28, 2007 Share Posted July 28, 2007 Chances are that the laptops SATA controller is to new and as a result isn't recognised by osx. if you can try installing 10.4.9 as that may recognise the SATA controller. SDRacer48 Posted August 16, 2007 Share Posted August 16, 2007 I have a Acer Aspire 5100 and I have wanted to put OSx86 on it, but I have a bad feeling about it. 1.) The whole SATA hard drive deal. 2.) The fact that OSx86 has been known to overheat laptops and that I haven't found one program yet that can successfully monitor my Acer's temperature in Windows. Personally my Acer ran hot just running XP if the AMD Powernow driver wasn't installed. (I have the same processor as coolmatt49) 3.) I am almost 100% the ATI Graphics card installed (I have the same as coolmatt49) is not compatiable with QE/CI. To CoolMatt49, My recommendations: 1.) Backup your current Vista Install completely with Acer eRecovery. If OSx86 fails, you probably would want your legit Vista licenses back. 2.) I would personally try to make it a dual boot keeping Vista and then adding OSx86. There are plenty of tutorials to do so on the WIKI. 3.) Once you get OSx86 running, get the AMD Powernow working for OSx86. I do not know if it is possible, but maybe someone has ported the linux driver or something. 4.) GET A TEMPERATURE MONITOR SOMEHOW!!!!!! Especially if you cannot get the AMD Powernow driver. The last thing you want to do is burn up your hardware. 5.) If you get it successfully working, post about it. All the details, fixes, etc. I personally and a few buddies of mine have been waiting for a "test dummie" (please take no offense) for the Acer Aspire 5100 Series. Mine and a couple of my friends laptops are almost exactly the same as yours except for USB locations, bluetooth, and hard drive size. Keep on macKIN' and Good Luck!
