Hi everyone!

I'm just starting to get back into the OSx86 world, not having really gotten far into it since the 10.4.4 days. Anyway, I downloaded Uphuck's wonderful v1.4i r2 DVD and am using that to try to set up OS X on my PC. The OS X installer can't see my main hard drive (250 GB SATA) so I dug out an old 60 GB IDE drive and am using that for OS X instead.

I've tried several different installation configurations now, but even though I am able to successfully install OS X to the drive, the first time I boot it I am greeted with an instant (or nearly instant) kernel panic. After a couple of tries, I installed with the Verbose Mode patch enabled, although it didn't provide me with much more information. I have actually seen three distinct kernel panics so far, just after restarting a few times in a row. The first one I saw said something like "com.apple.GeForce," which made me think it was graphics related. However the second one had a lot more text to it and mentioned lots of stuff about ATA kexts (sorry I've neglected to write these down but I'm reformatting the machine yet again at the moment hoping for a miracle). The third unique kernel panic I noticed did not cite any kexts or drivers or anything at all -- it simply had a fairly long list of what I assumed were memory locations (stuff like "0x8542345e"). I'm not really sure what to make of any of this.

So far my installs have gone like this (to the best of my recollection).

First install: v1.4i Main System, no Patches, all possible Drivers, all Applications

First result: Kernel panic after about 15 seconds of loading on the Apple screen (no verbose mode)

Second install: v1.4i Main System, all Patches, all possible Drivers, all Applications

Second result: Kernel panic with com.apple.GeForce message

Third install: v1.4i Main System, all Patches, Natit 0.2 NVIDIA driver, all System and Network Drivers, all Applications

Third result: Kernel panic with ATA kext messages

Fourth install: v1.4i Main System, all Patches, Natit 0.1 NVIDIA driver, all System and Network Drivers, all Applications

Fourth result: Kernel panic with memory location listing

I'm currently doing a new install right now using the Titan NVIDIA driver instead of the Natit ones -- I will of course report back if there is any success but I am not hopeful.

EDIT: Install finished. Result is a kernel panic citing "com.apple.BootCache(27)@0x46daa000."

Can anyone suggest anything to get OS X working on this computer? It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult to me, but I'm not sure. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated, so thanks in advance for any assistance!

It's been days since I downloaded the v1.4i "r1" and trying every thing I can think about to install it, I once got to the desktop (menu bar, dock and mouse) but the mouse freezes (maybe because I'm using a PS/2 mouse and keyboard, disabled the USB controller), and I'm still trying :D

so if you just want any version of OS X that installs on your motherboard (the P5N-SLI, I know it's not like mine but it has the same SB: MCP51), the one that I know it works is the Jas AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 with PPF1 PPF2. with just a little work you can get onboard Network and Audio chips working!

I appreciate the advice, Gladiator. I'm not entirely done trying to get Uphuck's up and running yet but I definitely appreciate the recommendation and will be sure to try that one next after I finish pulling the remaining hair out of my head. :D

In the meantime, though, I guess I'll keep trying... any additional advice would still be greatly appreciated!
