I've been using a Jas install of 10.4.8 with an upgrade to 10.4.9. I see alot of slowness issues on the system and other minor annoyances. I would like to get osx booting up like a champ, so I decided to grab uphuck 1.3 and then 1.4 a few hours later.

The problem I'm having is I'm installing on to a pata drive (200gb maxtor). During installation the drive is seen perfectly and installation occurs without a hitch. reboot the system, and at hte point where the OS loads I get a blinking cursor. Nothing. No attempts to try my secondary boot option (dvd). I burned the disc on ritek discs, a couple of them, at the lowest speed.

My original installation lives on a SATA drive, which boots without a problem. I'm hesitant to destroy that installation until I know this one will work. So overwriting is not an option.

An ideas? Please help.

Either your drive is not marked as Active or Bootable if you partitioned with Partition magic or the like - OR - if you partitioned with OS X's Disk Utility, you didn't click "MBR" in the Options button at the bottom of the screen. GUID is the default and only works with real Macs.
