First: Other Toshiba owners have written they had to disable the dual core and set the frequency control to "Always Low" in BIOS. This machine required no BIOS changes, dual core and dynamic work just fine.

I followed the excellent instructions at:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...p;hl=vista+boot

I used the Darwin boot loader to switch between Vista Home and OSX (However, I did set the time to 30 instead of 8 seconds).

Using the jaS 10.4.8 universal installer with Intel CPU, GMA950 and 10.4.5 login selected (the rest accomplished nothing), I had no sound, no networking. (I also had to trash the appleintel915.kext )

I got the ethernet working using the Realtek installer at:

http://www.necnet.de/krass.man/Installers/...0Installer.html

I had to force the the ethernet to enable by manually addressing, after it started working I had no problem switching to DHCP and all was well.

I never did get the wireless working.

Using the uphuck 10.4.9 installer my sound worked and the power management was much better, but there's a major flaw in the uphuck networking; manual addressing only, internet worked but access to my server, the other machines on my LAN and other network resources was non-existant. (I download several uphuck ethernet fixes and tried using Pacifist to replace the uphuck networking with the 10.4.8 kexts, but nothing worked.)

So my choice was: 10.4.8 with no sound or 10.4.9 with dismal networking...what to do...what to do.

What I did was -- I erased the OSX partition and loaded 10.4.8 using these settings:

Printer drivers

Intel CPU

GMA950

10.4.5 login

Booted up, fixed permissions, installed the ethernet driver, enabled the ethernet and switched to DHCP

Then I booted the 10.4.9 uphuck installer, and without erasing the previous install, I used these settings:

DO NOT SELECT Intel CPU (networking twitchy)

DO SELECT:

SSE3 kernal

Drivers:

GMA900

Azalia audio

Power Management Bundle

Core Duo Temp

(I also threw in a few apps)

Everything works but waking from sleep, the built-in camera and the wireless.

I ordered a D-Link DWL-G630 PCMCIA card to see if it will fix the wireless problem. If someone knows a better fix or card, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

This is my third dual boot machine, my others are a Dell Optiplex GX280 with XP Pro and a desktop computer with a Asus P5W-DH Motherboard and XP Pro.

  • 3 weeks later...

It turns out a PCMCIA card does't work on this machine, only Express Cards...live and learn. However, I did get the stock Atheros AR5006X wireless working perfectly with the instructions at:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...p;hl=disk+image

Now the only thing that doesn't work is wake from sleep and the webcam (which I don't use anyway).
