Eric.C
Is there a good utility out there the cleans up my disk? I've used about half of my 100GB partition, and I wanna download FCS2, which takes 53GBs (that only leaves 4GB)...btw, I'm not sure if this is bad but the last time I had problems with OS X, I reinstalled, but when reinstalling, I forgot to use Disk Utility to erase the disk first, should I reinstall and erase the disk or is that fine? What happens to my old system? If its still ony my HDD, is there a way to get rid of it? Guest Ramm
There's really nothing to "clean" that would make a major difference. Deleted old apps, music, videos, etc... If you installed over an old system, it usually prompts you about it. Chances are you overwrote your old operating system. Detosx
In terms of reclaiming wasted space, xslimmer reduced almost all of my installed Applications to almost half their original sizes (if you are on an Intel set up, you don't need the Combi files that are meant for non intel Macs and which take up a lot of space). I dislike product endorsements and am still looking for the equivalent of ccleaner for the Mac but xslimmer pretty much made my day. I'm on 80gigs. I didn't encounter any stability problems but do read the product's forum boards to see if it will play ball with all of your day to day apps. I read that a few product updaters look to see if the original application has been tampered with (size) and, if it has, it won't allow you to update. If xslimmer was freeware I would say it's a must for people with laptops with smaller hard drives.
