hey all. im super new to macs but always wanted to try it out after seeing it at best buy of all places on there ibook they had there. anyways my situation is this.

i have a hp DV6305ca about a month and a half old or so and need help with setting up the ethernet and wifi on it. my pc specs are as listed below

Intel® Celeron® M processor 440 1.86GHz
1024 MB DDR2 RAM (2 Dimm); expandable to 2048MB
80 GB 5400RPM SATA hdd
8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer15.4 inch widescreen hd wxga(1280 x800)
802.11b/g wlan (iwhen starting mac it states its a broadcom bcm4312 i do belive it is, will know more when i get home)
10/100 ethernet
56 k modem
intel graphics media accelerator 950
altec lansing speakers(built in)

i had mac os x 10.4.8 installed and running beautiful on there but the ethernet wouldnt work at all so i went to the apple site and figured maybe i just needed a driver or something so i found a software update for 10.4.8 on the apple site that said something about fixing known issues with my ethernet card and my wifi card. so i downloaded it on the desktop pc and transfered it over to the laptop usi.g my wifes ipod shuffle (only flash drive that was big enough to carry the file). and installed it. so it got to the end of the install and it stated " for changes to take affect you must restart your computer now" so i did well once i restarted it, it went into a continous loop of getting right to the apple logo and then restarting. so i said heck with it and formatted it and dropped my ubuntu distro i had. (posting this from that distro) anyways my question is. does any one know how to fix this and if so would some one be as of so kind to show me how? or even walk me threw it please and thanks.

edit. the version im using is 104.8 jas dvd
