morkus64
I'm running 10.4.8 on a P5LD2-VM (2gb memory, Celeron D, OS installed on PATA drive) and every once in a while I get messages saying I need to restart. The only thing I can think of to cause it is that it generally happens after I leave the computer a while. (I have sleep disabled because the system restarts on wake. I tried the ACPI speedstep patch, but it didn't work.) Any clue? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/57232-seemingly-random-restarts/ Share on other sites

Guest Ramm
It may have to do with your sleep mode. Try changing it in the BIOS. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/57232-seemingly-random-restarts/#findComment-408778 Share on other sites

morkus64
Current settings: Suspend Mode: Auto Repost Video on S3 Resume: Disabled ACPI 2.0 Support: No ACPI APIC Support: Enabled Alrighty... I changed the settings to those in the P5LD2-VM guide here (basically ACPI 2.0 support to Yes). Sleep still didn't work, so I installed the ACPI Throttler. STILL doesn't work, but no error message like last time i installed it. I dunno about random restarts... I'll have to give that some time. Thanks, btw, for all the help. mahuebel
I have this same problem. Im using the darwin 8.8.1 kernel with the JaS 10.4.8 release on a pata drive. I have an abit IL9 pro, pentium D 930, 2 GB ddr2 ram, a geforce 7300 GS "oc", and I also have a sata drive attached. I tried looking in my BIOS for something about the sleeping and I didnt find much of anything besides changing it from s3 to s1 Sorry, although i've dabbled here and there with mac os, I really am as novice as they come. Guest Ramm
Change it to S1, and see if that makes a difference. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/57232-seemingly-random-restarts/#findComment-408979 Share on other sites
mahuebel
Change it to S1, and see if that makes a difference. I Tried that when I saw it last night, but overnight I got the same darkened screen saying that I needed to restart. By the way, I also have disabled my sleep Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/57232-seemingly-random-restarts/#findComment-409225 Share on other sites
morkus64
Yeah, still getting the restart screen after bios changes... maybe it's time to move to 10.4.10? Oy. I don't want to deal with all that. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/57232-seemingly-random-restarts/#findComment-409322 Share on other sites

Not sure if this is true or just seems to be. Will report when I know more.
