Here's the deal:

I currently have OS X (10.4.8 JaS) installed on my desktop, but the mouse is stuck in the top-left corner. I can move the mouse, but only for a fraction of a second before it automatically returns to the top-left.

I know, it's a strange one. I've tried a different mouse (a standard Dell optical - I normally use a Logitech MX610 wireless) and the result is the same. I'm wondering if it can be a USB issue, because my USB memory sticks aren't being recognices either.

I've also searched these forums for any possible solution and replaced disabled the ApplePS2Trackpad and ApplePS2Mouse kexts.

Also, with a PS2 mouse, I get no movement at all. So .... in a word: help!

Cheers

MF :)

// Edit: My motherboard is an Asus P5RD2-VM. The mouse issue has been happening since install (even on the install DVD), and the USB Legacy option within the BIOS is on Auto.

Did you shutdown, insert it and then reboot. I remember looking like a n00b when plugging one in and saying "Why isn't it working?". People are just so used to Plug and Play.

P.S. I say n00b because I like when I can use 00 instead of oo.

lol, yes I did shut down.

Though strangely enough, I think I might have solved the problem (or at least the mouse is working perfectly now).

I figured that the problem was only occurring when I had my USB Memory Stick plugged in. I went into the BIOS and played with the USB Storage Device emulation settings to "Force FDD" instead of Auto. I think, for some strange reason, that my USB stick was being picked up as a mouse :S.

I have no idea if I'm right or not, but it seems to work for now anyway - no idea if it'll work for any great length of time though. This thing seems to have a mind of it's own

Yeah, but I now have another problem. Why isn't my USB Stick being recognised?

It's a 2Gb Kingston DataTraveller, and it works perfectly on my quad-boot laptop system (Vista, XP MCE, Fedora Core 7 and OS X).

// Edit: I do have the following error when I use verbose mode on boot:

EHCI Controller can't take control from BIOS

May be relevant?

I'm not sure what you mean about checking that the head is clean, but it is formatted as FAT so OS X will be able to read it.

I've tried it in several USB ports, and still nothing. My USB mouse and USB keyboard both work, so I'm not sure what the problem is...

Well, I hate to say it, but the  mouse problem is back. I really have no idea what could be causing it, so any help is appreciated.

A quick recap of the above posts:

  • I have tried a PS2 mouse
  • I have tried other USB ports
  • I have tried disabling the ApplePS2Trackpad and ApplePS2Mouse kexts (after I tried the PS2 mouse of course :P )
  • My USB keyboard works with no problems at all
  • My USB Memory stick does not work - works after disabling EHCI in BIOS

*bangs head against wall and considers throwing Hackintosh out of window* :P

// Edit: After a few more tests, it seems that booting into Vista (I have it on a dual-boot setup), then rebooting back into OS X solves the issue. I'm still not entirely sure what causes the problem in the first place though, so any help is still appreciated :P.
