Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. I was hoping hat I'd be able to get by with browsing the installation guides but I screwed up somewhere.

After finding a 10.4.9 installation disk, I used this guide off of your Wiki. Everything went according to plan up until the point where I restarted my computer with the OSX86 cd inside of it.

All I got was some weird character. I went back into my computers settings and tried to boot from the HDD. Still nothing. So, after reloading my factory image disk, here I am asking you guys for some help.

Where could I have gone wrong?

Could I have messed up with the partitioning of my HD, or maybe I burnt the DVD wrong. I used NERO Burning rom for the CD.

In the re-installation of Vista, I checked it to un-partition my HD and everything seems to be back like it was before. I have 73GB of HD space. Seven GB probably left to the Vista OS.

Here are my PCs specs:

Toshiba Satellite L35-Something

Intel Celeron M processor (1.87GHz)

ATI Graphics Card

512 MB RAM

I checked and my PC does support SSE2 an SSE3.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Wow. I can't imagine that booting a DVD could damage the partition map of the hard drive! Is your hard drive removeable? If so, I would try popping it out and then trying again, just to see if the DVD will boot. It's possible you got a bad download or burned it incorrectly.

Talk about a bad first impression!

As far as the guide you used, it's wrong in at least one place - ReWriteable DVDs work just fine. In fact it's what I always use first, so if it doesn't work I haven't wasted a DVD-R.

Also, after partitioning your drive did you first try to boot Vista again? You probably killed your Vista partition during the partitioning step, not by booting the DVD.

No I did not reboot after partitioning. I had no idea that you needed to do that. Probably where the :) hit the fan.

I have no idea if I have a removable hard drive. I do have a Toshiba Gigabeat F20 (20GB music player) that I could use as a secondary hard drive if there's enough free space on it.

As far as DVD disk, I can't remember if I used a -R or +R disk but what would you suggest? I do have some re-writable DVDs but not many. I have a lot more spare + or - Rs.

I'm going to check and make sure that I burned the disk as an .iso file and make sure I correctly partition the HDD before I try agian. I'm also going to back everything up.

And Ramm, I have absolutley no idea what you're talking about. I've never heard those terms before. I've never gone this "deep" before when it comes to messing with my computer.

Thanks for all of the help guys!
