I've got the same problem. Jas 10.4.8 installed from the dvd/cd drive.

Intalled on HP ZV5000 laptop. Intall went ok as long as I didn't install the aditional components.

After installing 10.4.8 from the dvd and rebooting it doens't recognize the drive at all.

I've spent the past week searcing on here for anyone else that may have had the same problem.

Any ideas?

Hp ZV500

Toshiba DVD/cd-rw model SD-52512 - not working after install

USB ports-working

Alps toucpad- working

SoundMax audio - not working

Firewire - haven't tried it but preferences says it's there

modems - not working

ATI Mobility- ??? shows up but can't change anything

Yup i have same problem like u all, my DVD drive is missing and not detected. But i have a trick to force osx detect my drive. Just put your OSX installation disc on your drive, boot your PC, select to boot from DVD drive not HDD, when OSX start installation countdown just wait it DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY..... then hola my drive recognize by OSX

I tried that with no luck.

I now have it working. I have Jas 10.4.8 installed and working.

Tried loading Uphuck 10.4.1.9 it didn't work, it just hang at the grey screen and kept saying reboot.

I reloaded Jas 10.4.8 made sure I had it working ok.

Then rebooted with the UPhUCk dvd in the drive, let it go till the install, then ONLY installed a few of the drivers. NO SYSTEM OR KERNALS, just a couple drivers.

After it rebooted ( which it booted the earlier version with the new driver 10.4.8 ) my drive was recognized and working.

I had the same problem (missing DVD drive) in uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i. I tried installing some random drivers as suggested, but they didn't do anything. I even tried installing something from the JaS 10.4.8 semthex DVD.

The Fix: (for me)

Turns out I didn't have the IOATAFamily kext installed. Be aware that at least in version 1.4i of uphuck, it's labeled as "ICH6,ICH8", or something to that effect. Clicking on it to read the description will tell you it's basically the IOATAFamily kext. So boot to the uphuck DVD, install only that package and leave everything else unchecked. Reboot and you should be good to go.

I have a CD/DVD RW drive that is recognized but won't let anthing access it. Profiler reads, "Media: No" I can't burn anything to it. I can't read anthing from it either. It opens and allows me to put a blank DVD in it but tells me to insert a blank disk. If I put a CD with data on it nothing happens either...can't see the disk. I don't know what to do to fix it. I have a Dell M140 laptop with a TSSTcorp DVD+/-RW TS-L532B drive and OSX 10.4.8. Does anyone have any ideas...needless to say, I'm new to OSX and everything Mac.

I must precise that to install mac os x on this laptop i had to use an IDE USB adaptato with ab external dvd drive , otherway i got everytime "still waiting for root device"...and this with whatever release i used ( JAS 10.4.8 pff1 &2, UPHUCK 10.4.9 v1.2, v1.3, V1.4 all rev, XXX10.4.10 and MACDOTNUB !!!)
