Pre-installation questions regarding AMD HW

Hello all! Please bear with me as I am a n00b, and though I have done some searches on the website and come up with some results, I still have some questions.

 

Namely, does anyone know whether any of the Hackint0sh "releases" works on an HP XW9300 workstation? It is based on a (from what I can gather) slightly modded Tyan S2895. I found someone on these boards reported getting 10.4.6 running on that motherboard, but s/he had SSE2 Opterons, whereas I have Opteron 252's (2x single-core 2.6Ghz) which are equipped with SSE3. The board also features an NForce Pro chipset, and I have gotten the gist from some topics that AMD systems have SATA issues. It was not immediately clear from this person's post whether they were using SATA or PATA HDD's. I have some concerns though as even though this machine will boot Darwin on the 10.4.3 developer release that got "fixed," it seems to hang while, or just after, trying to poll USB. (I apologise I do not have the exact error message as this was some time ago). I'm looking at at least a week before I get one of these things to download, and am just wondering whether I'd be better served getting a PPC Mac (I prefer intel, but unless someone here is dying to trade their Mac Pro, can't afford it ) Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
