MacWeenie
After I installed OSX86 on my PC which runs both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux, the active partition was switched to the OSX86 partition. Because of that, my system would not provide me the boot selection menu that comes with Ubuntu. To alleviate this problem, I booted my PC using the Ubuntu installation disk and ran 'gparted' from the Terminal application (from the Ubuntu desktop, click Applications-> Accessories -> Terminal). In Terminal, you must enter the command 'sudo gparted' to start the utility. This runs the Ubuntu partition utility. It displays a very nice graphical image of all of the partitions that are configured on your hard disk. In the far right column, you will see which partition, if any, is tagged as the boot partition. All you have to do is right-click the desired partition and check the box next to 'boot' to make the partition active. Make sure only one partition is marked 'boot.' After you make the necessary changes, close gparted and restart the computer with the Ubuntu disk removed from the optical drive. Hope this helps someone! sumguy
hi - i did exactly the same thing. except it didn't work for me! i set the ubuntu partition with the boot flag. but i only get a flashing cursor when i restart. the grub bootloader worked before, but now it doesn't. i booted the ubuntu disc again and changed it back to boot from the mac partition. at least that works, so i can boot either mac or windows xp, using the darwin bootloader. but i can't boot ubuntu anymore. anyone know how i can fix grub, or else add ubuntu to the darwin bootloader list? MacWeenie
I had a similar situation occur. To correct it, I simply reinstalled Ubuntu. My Ubuntu installation was not customized at all, so I had nothing to lose. After the reinstallation completed, all of the boot partitions worked fine. Hope this helps! By the way, you can edit the menu list that grub provides when your system boots. Start Ubuntu and open a terminal session. Enter the command sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst From here you can adjust the boot menu to your liking.
