I would like to set up a process where I have 3 hard drive partitions, and copy the installer image to the third partition . I then boot off that partition and install OS X to the second partition, leaving the original first boot partition untouched.

I've done this on my MBP and it works great. Disk Utilty -> restore -> HD partition (local or via firewire), boot from install DVD image on HD, good to go.

For some reason I've had no luck doing this with my versions of OS X 86. If I use disk utility to duplicate an osx86 distro to my third HD partition, I can't boot from it. It doesn't show up as an option, even if I bless it.

Can someone post instructions about how to dupe an osx86 install distro to an HD partition and boot from that partition?

I've noticed that if you boot and install from an osx86 DVD, it formats the HD as master boot recrod rather than GUID, so I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. Is there something extra you have to do to boot from another partition if your HD uses MBR?

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Andrew
