mourngrym1969
Actually, I know what you are seeing... I have seen various recommendations in the forum to rename the DVD image file from .CDR to .IMG or .ISO... I did that and Nero burned it alright (so did Roxio), but I ended up with a DVD that apparently took of 4.3gb of space for... nothing. What I ended up doing was to rename the image back to .CDR and download Deep Burner (Cheetah Burner I hear also works) and burn it with that tool (I don't know about Alcohol, another one to try). That created a useable, bootable DVD. Don't know what happens when the burner expects one format and it's another, but that's my experience (now installed on both a desktop and Laptop). Good luck, Mourngrym Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56294-ive-got-my-1049-dvd-but-its-blank/#findComment-402266 Share on other sites

Good luck, Mourngrym thanx for the response Mourngrym, okies i've followed your instructions and made no progress. After renaming the file to .CDR and burning with Deep Burner i still get nothing i can see with the computer and nothing happens when i try to boot from it. I then renamed the file back to an .iso and used the Cheetah burner. Same end result. Can someone tell me what they use to see whats in the .iso so i can double check the file. After i burn the .iso should i be able to see something on the disc in windows? I have my bios setup so it boots from the DVD drives first then the HD. Do you see something when it first starts to boot off the dvd? I know when i installed Vista it will say press any key to boot from DVD. Any help would be great thanx in advance all. One last thing does the OSX86 like to sit on the drive 0 My setup is vista is on Drive0 and i want to install the OSX on Drive1. Not sure if that mattered or not Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56294-ive-got-my-1049-dvd-but-its-blank/#findComment-402402 Share on other sites
mourngrym1969
Do you have access to an actual Mac (or another PC with OSX on it)? Toast burned my last CDR without any hassles... blade007
I have also had the same problems in the past when I have managed to get a copy of osx86 off the net but every time I have got a mate to burn on a mac using toast it has worked fine. blade007
Get a program called macdrive for windows. You can then read mac hard disks, cd's and more from windows. WesternCanuk
Get a program called macdrive for windows. You can then read mac hard disks, cd's and more from windows. What a cool little program. Okies is all installed and i checked the DVD i just made it looks like everything is on there. Now after following the 10.4.9 guide i cant get my system to boot from the DVD I have my bios set to boot from CD is there anything else i should be doing. Also i have double checked my specs and yes my hardware should be ok to get his thing going. The computer does pause on bootup and i can see it reading the drive but after about a min it stops and starts to boot to vista. Shrug. Great job is getting me this far guys.. big mac newbie here so i have no idea what i'm doing and after reading all day i'm slowly making progress but it's painfully slow. :pirate2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56294-ive-got-my-1049-dvd-but-its-blank/#findComment-402487 Share on other sites
blade007
I am also a newbie to it all but will try and offer advise. I am still trying to get hold of a newer version but this whole torrent thing seems to be a bit rubbish, it has now been downloading for days and still has days left to go. I am used to usenet so normally would download a whole dvd in just over an hour but no one has upload the latest version there yet. If this demoniod that everyone keeps going on about is better could someone spare me an invite code.Anyway back to the point, I have had this same problem before of the disk's not booting but when I have got my mate to burn on a mac with toast they have worked fine. If you havent got a mate with a mac then I am currently trying several different burning programs for PC hopefully one of them will burn it however the mac does to make it work.Hopefully I will have some results to post this evening. Update - Someone in another post has advised ImgBurn. I have this on my computer which I use for other things but completely slipped my mind to try it for this. Will try later and let you know. WesternCanuk
ok well after some work, i managed to get a version 10.4.8 burnt and it installed for me. I'm just working the bugs out now. I think my prob was a bad ISO to begin with but not 100% sure at this point. In the end i'm working through the install process. Thanx again guys.
