EDIT: Mute Button Led -- Compaq Presario notebook

I just installed OS X 10.4.8 and there are couple of things that are not working the way they should be.

I've compaq presario notebook [v2136AP]. While working my volume gets muted, every few seconds. It comes back as soon as I increase/decrease volume, system makes some error sound [pressing some bad combinations like ctrl escape etc].

I guess I have AC97 sound drivers installed. My windows system shows conexant drivers.

 

Any point in the right direction is much appreciated.

EDIT:

 

It is just the LED of mute button that starts glowing exactly after 4seconds. But sound does not get muted. Also, I can not use HOME & END buttons to scroll to the start and end of the line, respectively. If that helps figure out some keyboard error or something.
