I am new to OSX and to be honest I love it to death. This thing rocks and it is rock solid. I just cannot believe how much MS made Vista to emulate OS X. Yes I have Vista also, sitting in its lonesome case waiting for the first service pack to be released. I installed 10.4.8 a few days ago and have been struggling getting everything up to par. Finally I get my 7600GT up and going great on max resolution and got my Realtek ALC655 up and going. But there was something funny happening with my OSX. I could not change my system clock, I could not empty my trash and there were many things I could not do because of permissions. What I did not understand is I set a user as administrator and still nothing worked. I have read and read and read all the forums here and over at the other forums but nothing seemed to work. Well being a MIS Specialist as my profession and thought to myself why would Windows act like this. Then I sat back tonight and ran the Disk Utility, Verified Permissions then I Repaired Permissions to no avail. Nothing seemed to work. Heck I couldnt even upgrade to 10.4.9 using Jas's pkg. Then one last option was to boot from the DVD and use Disk Utility on that and verify and repair. Well it did its job and I realized now that just like with most OS's there are certain things you just cannot do while the OS is loaded. I repaired everything single problem I have had with OSX, my clock is back to normal, everthing. I hope this helps others get their stuff straightened out like it has me.
